Feelings, impermanence and building a better foundation to live

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

Whether we choose to admit it or not, life is hard, and life is struggle.

And most of the time that struggle exists in-between what we believe should be happening to us and what is happening to us.

Some struggle can be exciting and fun but struggle around our relationships, finances, and how we feel about ourselves can be especially hard.

This is the sort of struggle where our feelings and emotions tend to take over our thinking, and where new tools and mindsets are needed to help us navigate our way through these.

The first thing we need to understand is that what we feel is transitory. It has no permanence, and it does not last. Feelings are not forever, and they are not an indicator of truth or fact.

Secondly, it is worth asking yourself what makes you believe that the narrative you have created in your head around what should be happening, will actually deliver what it promises in your head?

The answer to life’s problems don’t exist in the things outside of you; be that more money, a romantic partner, a better body. If you want something to change on the outside, you need to change things on the inside first.

And that starts with changing the lens through your view your life and the lens through which you view yourself.

The tools I use to do this are here.

Eating better food and drink - helps to fuel your body.

Getting good sleep - allows for healing and recovery.

Exercise and movement - makes my body strong.

Journalling - makes me more self-aware and helps me understand the “why” behind my behaviours, thoughts and feelings.

Mindfulness and meditation - help me build peace of mind and activate the body’s sympathetic nervous system.

Reaching out to friends and family - for the support I need

Finding something fun to do - helps bring me joy and creates moments of happiness.

Gratitude - finding something to say thank you for, reminds me of my many blessings.

By making time to do these things every day, I create a strong foundation around which I continue to evolve that lens through which I view myself and my world.

It also makes me healthier, more productive and more impactful. It makes me better.
